Borobudur Temple:

The Borobudur, is a 9th-century Mahayana Buddhist temple in Central Java. It is the world’s largest Buddhist temple.

The structure can be divided into 3 sections:
1. The base, a large square platform of 123 m. × 123 m., with 4 m. heigh walls.
2. 5 stacked square platforms, each of lesser height. The 1st terrace size is 14 m. shorter. The other 4 sizes are each time 4 m. shorter.
3. The top 3 circular platforms, with each stage supporting a row of perforated stupas, arranged in concentric circles. The main dome at the center, reaches 35 m. above ground level.

Stairways at the center of each of the four sides give access to the top, with a number of arched gates overlooked by 32 lion statues. The gates are adorned with Kala’s head carved on top of each and Makaras projecting from each side, often found on the gates of Javanese temples.

The main entrance is on the eastern side, the location of the first narrative reliefs. Stairways on the slopes of the hill also link the monument to the low-lying plain.
