PART IV

THE NETWORK OF OUR THOUGHTS

The Brain/Body’s nerve architecture and their functions

The nervous system is a body’s decision and communication center. The central nervous system (CNS) comprises the brain and the spinal cord. The peripheral nervous system (PNS) entails nerves. Together they control each part of our daily life, from breathing and blinking to memorizing facts.

Nerves reach from our brain to our face, ears, eyes, nose, spinal cord… and from the spinal cord to the rest of our body. Sensory nerves gather all input, and send that to the spinal cord, which in turn speeds it to the brain.

The brain makes sense of that message, fires off responses via the motor neurons to the rest of our body. The spinal cord, a bundle of nerves running up and down the spine, is similar to a superhighway, speeding messages to and from the brain every split-second.

The Head-Brain can be seen as 3 brains molded together:

1. geographically: the upper-, center-, and lower-Brain.

2. historically: neo-cortex or human (3 Mio yrs), limbic or mammalian (150 Mio yrs), and reptilian brain (500 Mio yrs).

The brain in the belly is called the ‘Gut Brain’.
