Somatic Release Processes

Imagine a lifelong accumulation of minor and major traumas. What will that do to your more than 650 muscles and joints, and overall health? Is it any wonder why we feel seemingly incurable aches & pains many days of our lives?

There are various ways to address individual healing. Most cognitive and emotion based therapies are “top-down” approaches, that focus on insight and emotions 1st and somatic responses 2nd. Others are “bottom-up” approaches.

With Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) you manipulate the body’s energy field by tapping on acupuncture points while focusing on the traumatic memory.

Traumatic release can also be achieved by the use of acupuncture needles and/or the use of moxibustion. Acupuncture helps nerve cells to release endorphins. 

Somatic Experiencing focuses on the Reptilian brain and its survival-based functions which are not under our conscious control. Bodily sensations provide access to these instinctual action and arousal systems.

Cognitions and secondary (limbic brain based) emotions are included in this practice, but they appear after the primary, (Reptilian-brain based) physical emotions and sensations.
