Types of Beliefs?
I have observed in myself two types of beliefs:
- consciously adopted beliefs (some of which might qualify as "knowledge") and
- unconsciously adopted beliefs. They usually have an emotion attached.
Consciously adopted beliefs are easily accessible to my conscious mind. I decided to adopt them because they make sense, feel satisfactory and/or comfortable, and fit the framework of my existing beliefs and "knowledge".
They support that framework and form the point of view from which I operate my conscious decision making process. They appear "rational" because they support previously formed conclusions, facts, and support my deliberate decisions.
Intentionally created beliefs are part of #1 as well.
Unconsciously adopted beliefs are indoctrinated beliefs, often "controlling" beliefs, and those adopted in moments of trauma or deep emotion. They go in and "stick" because there is a pain emotion attached to them, like my mother screaming at me when I was small "you can\’t stand prosperity". Yeh, right.
These beliefs operate decisions that have no basis in rational behavior because they are pain-based or were accepted blindly because some message has been repeated over and over again. They function at the level of post-hypnotic suggestion, and therefore I don\’t really want them.
My challenge has been to discover the unconsciously adopted beliefs and release them. Strangely enough, they are the ones that cause me to sin and err. Is \’hellfire reserved for those who lead the little ones astray\’?
Should you program behaviors through indoctrination or trauma? Would any action coming from a non-deliberate decision reveal an unconsciously held belief as its cause?
