Matters at Hand I?
Aspects of Attention
with regard to
the Matters at Hand I
An information fatique syndrome occurs when there is:
- irritability and anger,
- pain in the stomach and muscles,
- an inability to make decisions or cope in other ways,
- frequent feelings of helplessness and lethargy,
- loss of energy and enthusiasm for leisure activities,
- an inability to sleep at night and/or waking up with a sense of panic.
Education about the proper use and management of incoming information and knowledge is a powerful but underutilized tool in fostering good Attention Allocation (AA). Research showed that most people’s information gathering skills did not come from any formalized training.
A progressive organization needs to educate its members in determining what information and knowledge they truly need relative to their job or projects.
How about setting up an effective information-environment that encompasses important information on:
- email,
- paper workflow,
- filing structures,
- archiving techniques,
- Internet and Intranets.
