Homunculus?

Homunculus ?

A mini-man in the brain?

Life Science
Information coming through our eyes is sent to the visual cortex in the back of our head. There, the image is inverted. Then the data is sent to various areas in our brains, that filter it according to their functional programming.

Then these areas create perceptions (thoughts & images), based on the beliefs and judgments associated with it.

So, instead of actually seeing what is out there, \’someone\’ is continuously watching a movie of slightly distorted images \’on a screen inside our head\’.

Philosophy
Example of the use of a homunculus to explain a concept is comparing a computer translating Chinese into English, to a man swapping symbols around without truly understanding what the symbols mean.
