In order to better understand the basic ingredients and the ‘cooking conditions’ of the cosmos, from cosmic day one till today, particle physicists are trying to reverse-engineer the ‘universal soup’. Within this complex concoction, cryptic clues hide the instructions for the cosmic recipe.
Both stars and humans are made of the same type of atoms, hydroxen, helium, carbon, oxygen and iron, which have been continuously ‘cooked’ in the hearts of old stars that were transformed into a supernova with a big bang.
Astrophysical observations have shown that all matter accounts for only 4% of the entire Universe. Thus, humans, planets and galaxies do not really define the Universe, but rather the darkness of "nothingness" surrounding them!
This nothingness is still a mystery, but within this darkness lay exciting possibilities of a new physics beyond the established Standard Model.
Garrett Lisi. a surfing US physicist, shows that all currently known quantum particles fit in his model. It allows for a total of 240 and is based on gorgeous 8-D hexagonal geometry:
