This root-wood bed <br \/>\n(size HxLxW=45x93x60&rdquo;) made from naturally shaped wood, used by <br \/>\nBuddhists, Daoists, etc. desiring to resonate with the ways of nature. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">The Qianlong Emperor was the longest-serving ruler in China. Not to out-reign his grandfather, he decided to design a garden complex for his retirement, but ultimately decided to remain behind the throne as emperor-emeritus. He very much regretted to have never really lived in it.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/userfiles\/image\/2025-pics\/juanqin_theater-room.jpg\" width=\"333\" height=\"222\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">The Qianlong Garden was built around 1775. It reflects the emperor&rsquo;s broad cultural tastes and knowledge. It included trees, bamboo and other growing things, but it was above all the emperor&rsquo;s tranquil, private space: a place for reflection; a place for cultivation of the inner self; a retreat; a place for poetry and painting; and a work of art in its own right.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/OlkPuwak2dE\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen=\"\" width=\"280\" height=\"155\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">This private retreat, with 4 courtyards, elaborate rockeries, 27 pavilions and structures, also has a section for entertainment, named <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Juanqinzhai\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 255);\">Juanqinzhai<\/span><\/a> (Studio of Exhaustion from Diligent Service). Thus, he became the world&#8217;s richest man.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/userfiles\/image\/2020%20pics\/supreme-chamber.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"333\" height=\"354\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">While the impact of Chinese art and architecture on European art of this period is well known, the interiors of the Qianlong Garden demonstrate that this kind of impact was reciprocal, mainly thanks to <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Giuseppe_Castiglione_(Jesuit_painter)\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 255);\">Giuseppe Castiglione<\/span><\/a>, a Jesuit missionary and perspective painter who settled in China around 1715.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/userfiles\/image\/2020%20pics\/fabric-throne.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"333\" height=\"212\" \/><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">An interpretation center is located in an existing, restored structure within the 2nd courtyard of the garden.
