The first Allied war crimes trial took place there.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">&quot;The palace has five floors; 1,200 rooms, 1,742 windows; 34 staircases; 1,026 fireplaces; a large library; and a theater modelled after the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Teatro_di_San_Carlo\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 255);\">Teatro San Carlo of Naples<\/span><\/a>:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/userfiles\/image\/2025-pics\/Caserta-theater.jpg\" width=\"277\" height=\"154\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">The floor space is 138,000 sqm. This royal palace has more than 40 monumental rooms completely decorated with frescoes when, in comparison, Versailles counts only 22:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/userfiles\/image\/2025-pics\/Original-Plan-di-Caserta.jpg\" width=\"307\" height=\"200\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">It is &quot;the swan song of the spectacular art of the Baroque, from which it adopted all the features needed to create the illusions of multidirectional space&quot;:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/userfiles\/image\/2025-pics\/Etching-plan%20Luigi%20Van_.jpg\" width=\"333\" height=\"212\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">The site is featured in the Star Wars films Episode I: The Phantom Menace, and Episode II: Attack of the Clones. It has also been used in movies and tv series, such as The Great, Mission Impossible III, Angels &amp; Demons, Kaos, a.o.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">The palace has a rectangular plan of 247 &times; 184 m. The 4 sides are connected by two orthogonal arms, forming four inner courts. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reggiadicasertaunofficial.it\/garden\/history-park\/\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 255);\">The park<\/span><\/a> starts from the back of the palace, flanking a long alley with artificial fountains and cascades:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/userfiles\/image\/2025-pics\/Cascade-wtr-falls.jpg\" width=\"277\" height=\"304\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">The fountains and cascades, each filling a basin, with architecture and hydraulics (by Luigi Vanvitelli) at intervals along a wide straight canal that runs to the horizon, rivalled those at <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Peterhof_Palace\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 255);\">Peterhof Palace outside St. Petersburg<\/span><\/a>. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">Experts noted that the Caserta surpassed all other European royal palaces, like <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sch&ouml;nbrunn_Palace\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 255);\">Sch&ouml;nbrunn in Austria<\/span><\/a>, in one particular aspect: the combination of completeness and stateliness:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/userfiles\/image\/2025-pics\/series-of-fntns.jpg\" width=\"333\" height=\"200\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">This is attributed to the spacious oval piazza in front of the edifice&#8217;s South-side, a partial copy of <a href=\"http:\/\/cathedralsofthecosmicchrist.com\/?p=993\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 255);\">St. Peter&#8217;s Square<\/span><\/a>:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/userfiles\/image\/2025-pics\/reggiacaserta.jpg\" width=\"333\" height=\"193\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Royal Palace of Caserta Built by architect Luigi Vanvitelli for Bourbon King Charles VII of Naples in 1751, this elaborate residence is the largest former royal palace in the world as lavish as Versailles.
