These circuits, acting as <a href=\"?p=371\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 255);\">programs<\/span><\/a>, can flip on or off, like flipping a coin. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">The main centers of the brain&rsquo;s reward circuit are located along the Medial Forebrain Bundle (MFB). They let the hypothalamus know when rewards are available. It then uses the pituitary gland to activate the VTA, and the autonomic and <a href=\"?p=654\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 255);\">endocrine functions<\/span><\/a> of the entire body. <br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">These circuits are at the heart of our mental activities and guide all our behaviors. Its central link consists of nerve connections between two particular small groups of neurons. One of these groups is located in the <a href=\"?p=576\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 255);\">ventral tegmental area (VTA)<\/span><\/a> and the other in the nucleus accumbens. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">Dopamine is the chemical messenger between the 2 groups. Here is where most drugs act and cause dependencies.
