First patented in 1887, the idea of a realistic-image mirror still was never seen as more than a curiosity till John Walter experienced a big surprise. <br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">What he saw was recognition: the image in the mirror looked and felt right, and matched his sense of what others saw. <br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">In contrast, the flat, traditional mirror felt false and often conveyed a host of inner thoughts that were in direct contrast to the way he was feeling. In other words, his real self was present in the true-image mirror. The first views of the non-reversed image strike people in very different ways.
