A theme park is a type of amusement park  built around one or more themes, such as American West or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.atlantis.com\/\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 255);\">Atlantis<\/span><\/a> in the Bahamas. Today the terms amusement parks and theme parks are used interchangeably.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">Amusement parks evolved in Europe from fairs and pleasure gardens which were created for people&rsquo;s recreation. In the USA, world&rsquo;s fairs and expositions were a major influence on the development of amusement parks. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">Most amusement parks have a fixed location, instead of a few days\/weeks per year for fun-fairs and carnivals.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 255);\">The Modern Amusement Park<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.blackgangchine.com\/\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 255);\">Blackgang Chine<\/span><\/a> amusement park, established in 1843 on the Isle of Wight, UK can be considered the oldest existing theme park in the world. <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lakecompounce.com\/\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 255);\">Lake Compounce<\/span><\/a> in Bristol, CT may be the true oldest continuously operating amusement park in the USA (1846). <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">Another old and traditional amusement park is the family owned <a href=\"http:\/\/www.knotts.com\/\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 255);\">Knott&rsquo;s Berry Farm<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 255);\">The Modern Theme park<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">Santa Claus Town opened in Santa Claus, Indiana in 1935. It included Santa&rsquo;s Candy Castle and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.holidayworld.com\/\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 255);\">other Santa Claus-themed attractions<\/span><\/a>. It is the first themed attraction in the USA: a pre-cursor to the modern day theme park. <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">The first park on <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Coney_Island\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 255);\">Coney Island<\/span><\/a> was built around a nautical theme. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">In the 1950&rsquo;s the Herschend family took over operation of the Marvel Cave <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">tourist attraction <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">near Branson, Missouri. Then they modernized the cave, which led to large numbers of people waiting for the tour. Then the entire village became the theme park, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.silverdollarcity.com\/\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 255);\">Silver Dollar City<\/span><\/a>. <br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">Starting  with Disneyland in the 1950s, the theme park experience became part of a  larger package, reflected in a television show, movies, lunch boxes,  action figures and finally park rides and costumed characters that make  up one or more of the various &ldquo;themes.&rdquo; These parks offer a world with  no violence or social problems. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">The  <a href=\"?p=627\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 255);\">adrenaline<\/span><\/a> generating thrills of the theme parks are often obscured from the outside by high  fences re-enforcing the feeling of escape. They are kept clean. New  thrill rides are regularly added for customer retention purposes. The  theme park is either based on a central theme or, divided into several  distinctly themed areas, lands or &ldquo;spaces.&rdquo; <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">Another variation of the &#8221;theme park&#8221; are the animal parks. Marineland of the Pacific opened in 1954. It paved the way for <a href=\"http:\/\/seaworldparks.com\/\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 255);\">SeaWorld parks<\/span><\/a> which added thrill rides later. <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">Today, central  Florida boasts more theme parks than any other worldwide destination.&nbsp; <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 255);\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">Disneyland and the Corporate-Owned Amusement Park <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">Walt Disney was influenced by earlier theme parks such as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tivoli.dk\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 255);\">Tivoli Gardens<\/span><\/a> in Copenhagen and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.efteling.co.uk\/\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 255);\">De Efteling<\/span><\/a> in Holland.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">Disney took these influences and melded them with the popular Disney animated characters and his unique vision. &ldquo;<a href=\"http:\/\/disneyland.disney.go.com\/ca\/\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 255);\">Disneyland<\/span><\/a>&rdquo; opened in Anaheim, CA in 1955. It changed this industry forever. Key to the design process was replacing architects with art directors from the film industry. <\/p>\n<p>The Disney World resort complex in Florida opened in 1971; still the largest theme park and resort complex in the world. The Disney Company, accounts for around half of the total industry&rsquo;s revenue in the USA, with over 50 million adventure seekers each year.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kennywood.com\/#\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 255);\">Kennywood<\/span><\/a>, a park open since 1898, features Television personalities. The first regional theme park, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sixflags.com\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 255);\">Six Flags theme park<\/span><\/a>, was the vision of Angus Wynne, Jr. He helped create the modern, competitive theme park industry. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">Perhaps the most indirect evolution of an attraction into a full-fledged theme park is <a href=\"http:\/\/themeparks.universalstudios.com\/index.php\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 255);\">Universal Studios in Hollywood<\/span><\/a>. The backlot tram tour from 1964 slowly evolved into a large attraction with: a western stunt show in 1967, &ldquo;the Parting of the Red Sea&rdquo; in 1973, props from the movie Jaws in 1975, and the &ldquo;Conan the Barbarian&rdquo; show in 1984. <br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">An aging population and a slowing economy are forcing The Disney Company and others to seek their fortunes in emerging tourist markets such as in the M-East and China. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 255);\">Present and Future of Amusement Parks<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">Since the 1980&#8217;s, the amusement park industry is bigger than ever before. From large, worldwide type, theme parks to smaller and medium-sized regional venues. Simple theme parks directly aimed at smaller children have emerged, like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.legoland.com\/\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 255);\">Legoland<\/span><\/a> in the USA and Europe. <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">The only limit to future theme park ventures is imagination. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"250\" height=\"167\" src=\"\/userfiles\/image\/4-2011-pics\/roll-royce%20lego%20engine.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 255);\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: x-small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">RR-jet engine:&nbsp;153.000 lego bricks, 2&#215;1.5 m, 300 kg<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">In 2001, Disney built the Paradise Pier, a re-creation of the traditional yesteryear seaside amusement park. <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">Kennywood created &ldquo;<a href=\"http:\/\/wikimapia.org\/1101143\/Lost-Kennywood\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 255);\">Lost Kennywood<\/span><\/a>&rdquo; with classic rides that recall the possibly more tranquil times of the early 20th century. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mallofamerica.com\/attractions\/view\/nickelodeon-universe\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 255);\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">Amusement parks in shopping malls<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"> began in the 1990&#8217;s, blending traditional amusement park entertainments &#8211; roller coasters, water parks, carousels, and live entertainment&ndash; with hotels and movie theaters. Aging baby boomers also demand more restaurants, gardens and live entertainment.&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">Family fun parks starting as miniature golf courses have begun to grow to include rock-climbing, batting cages, go-karts, bumper cars, bumper boats and water slides. <br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">The latest development is vertical entertainment towers with residential and commercial floors. The &quot;<a href=\"http:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/2013\/09\/12\/travel\/seoul-invisible-skyscraper-tower-infinity\/index.html\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 255);\">invisible tower&quot; in S-Korea<\/span><\/a> will reportedly be used primarily for leisure activities. It will include observation decks, a movie theater, a roller coaster, a water park and various food and beverage outlets.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">The popularity of theme parks has led to more &quot;theming&quot; &#8211;<span style=\"color: rgb(255, 0, 0);\"> the use of an over-arching theme so as to<\/span> <span style=\"color: rgb(255, 0, 0);\">create a holistic and integrated spatial organization of a consumer venue &#8211;<\/span> <br \/>\nin non-theme park <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Edutainment\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 255);\">edu-tainment<\/span><\/a> venues, such as the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Family_entertainment_center\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 255);\">FEC<\/span><\/a>&#8216;s, that now have to integrate their material play world with the virtual game world played out on smartphones, etc.:<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"310\" height=\"342\" alt=\"\" src=\"\/userfiles\/image\/4-2011-pics\/side-vw.jpg\" \/>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 255);\">Amusement Park Rides and Attractions<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">The earliest rides included the carousel. <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">The Ferris wheel is the most recognized product of a fair. <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">Then  came the roller coaster. These gravity driven mechanized  thrill-machines on rails were the beginning of even more thrilling  amusement park rides. Most rides are set around a theme. <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">Often the mixture of attractions can be divided into several categories.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 255);\">Thrill rides<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">There  is a core set of thrill rides most amusement parks have, such as  the tilt-a-whirl, twister, gravitron, chairswing, swinging  inverter ship, and the top spin. There is constant innovation  in ways to spin and throw passengers around in an effort to have people return.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 255);\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">Roller coasters <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">Although  the 2-7 different roller coaster rides may be the most attractive  aspect of a park, many people come for other reasons. Try the Robocoaster 4D simulator, where kids can design their own riding experience, indoors or outdoors: <br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"250\" height=\"155\" frameborder=\"0\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/AMauOKt26jM\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 255);\">Train\/Water rides <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">The earliest park trains were mostly custom built. <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">Amusement parks with water resources generally feature a few water rides, like the log flume, bumper boats, and rowing boats. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">Such  rides are usually gentler and shorter and often more suitable for all ages and on hot days.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 255);\">Transport rides<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">Transport  rides are used to take large numbers of guests from one area to  another. They usually cost extra, even in parks where rides are free.  They are generally popular as they offer an alternative to walking.  Transport rides include chairlifts, monorails, and trains. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 255);\">Cuisine<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">Food  is routinely sold through food booths and indoor restaurants and the  offerings range from common fast food items, to restaurant selections,  to indigenous street food, and may include specialty items or delicacies  depending on the nature of the park and availability of ingredients. <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">However, amusement park menus generally include:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">Pizza<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">Popcorn<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">Hot dogs<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">Ice cream<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">Soft drinks<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">Sandwiches<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">Hamburgers<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">Fried chicken<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">Cotton candy<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 255);\">Admission prices and admission policies<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">Amusement parks collect most of their revenue from park admission fees. Other revenue sources are parking fees, food and beverage sales, and souvenirs.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 255);\">Amusement parks operate on 1 of 2 admission principles:<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 255);\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">Pay-As-You-Go<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">In this format, a guest enters the park at little or no charge. The guest must then purchase rides individually, either at the attraction&rsquo;s entrance or by purchasing ride tickets (or a similar exchange method, like a token). The cost of the attraction is often based on its complexity or popularity. For example, a guest might pay 1 ticket to ride a carousel, but would pay 4 tickets to ride a roller coaster, or allow guests to purchase unlimited admissions to all attractions. A wristband or pass is then shown at the entrance to gain admission. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">Disneyland opened in 1955 using the pay-as-you-go format. Initially, guests paid the admission fees at the attractions. This evolved into a ticket system that is still part of the amusement-park lexicon. In this new format, guests can purchase ticket books that containe a number of tickets, labeled &ldquo;A,&rdquo; &ldquo;B&rdquo; and &ldquo;C.&rdquo; Rides and attractions using an &ldquo;A-ticket&rdquo; are generally simple, with &ldquo;B-tickets&rdquo; and &ldquo;C-tickets&rdquo; used for the larger, more popular rides.
