The vestibular system is made up of a network of looped tubes, three in each ear, called the semicircular canals. They loop off a central area called the vestibule.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">The vestibular system detects movement through special sensory cells which are activated as you move your head. This system sends signals to the vestibular nerve, which joins the cochlear nerve and carries electrical signals to the <a href=\"?p=509\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 255);\">pons of the mid-brain<\/span><\/a>, which is responsible for coordinating movement.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">Balance disorders occur because of issues in the inner ear. Vestibular neuronitis results from an infection that inflames the inner ear or the nerves connecting the inner ear to the brain. This inflammation disrupts the transmission of sensory information from the ear to the brain, causing dizziness and difficulties with balance. Inner ear infections are usually viral. Middle ear infections are usually bacterial, affecting the area around the eardrum.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/userfiles\/image\/2021%20pics\/Organ-corti.png\" width=\"399\" height=\"325\" alt=\"\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 255);\">&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Organ of Corti<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">The Cochlear Spiral Ganglion (SG) Neurons are the auditory portion of the VIII Nerve, which is formed by sensory neurons that innervate the inner ear, which means the distribution and excitation of nerves to its vestibular and auditory receptors. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/userfiles\/image\/2021%20pics\/spiral-ganglion-neuron.jpg\" width=\"222\" height=\"140\" alt=\"\" \/><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">The neurons of the <a href=\"\/userfiles\/file\/Auditory%20mechanism.pdf\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 255);\">cochlear portion<\/span><\/a> innervate the sensory hair cells of the organ of Corti, a structure in the cochlea, which produce nerve impulses from sound vibrations. Their somas are in the cochlear spiral ganglion where two types of neurons can be distinguished: <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">95% of them are AFferent Type\u00e2\u20ac\u0090I neurons, whose bipolar and myelinated fibers innervate only one cochlear inner hair cell (IHC). <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">5% of them are AFferent Type\u00e2\u20ac\u0090II neurons, which are pseudo-unipolar and unmyelinated fibers that innervate multiple cochlear outer hair cells (OHC), but each OHC only receives one contact from one Type\u00e2\u20ac\u0090II neuron: <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/userfiles\/image\/2021%20pics\/SG-nerves.jpg\" width=\"277\" height=\"204\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana; font-size: small;\">The spiral ganglion VIII nerve fibers are involved in various hearing and\/or vestibular problems, and in dysfunctions of the synapses between cochlear hair cells and the afferent fibers. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana; font-size: small;\">These could cause noise trauma, deafness related to dizziness, genetic hearing loss, restriction in blood supply to tissues, causing a shortage of oxygen that is needed for keeping the tissues alive, etc. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 102, 153);\">Balancing your Yin and Yang<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">The roots of <a href=\"?p=960\"><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 255);\">Taoist<\/span><\/a> Yoga originate in the ancient healing systems of acupuncture, Tai Chi and Qigong.
