Then, the % of change is more important than the actual numeric value.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">Indexes also summarize and rank specific items.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">Constructing the items involves 4 steps:<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">item selection to be based on the degree of specificity in which a dimension is to be measured, and their variance, how far a set of numbers are spread out,<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">items should be examined on their various empirical relationships,<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">indices\/scores are designed, which involves determining their score ranges and weights for each item,<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">indices\/scores should be validated, which involves testing whether they can predict indicators related to the measured variable not used in their construction.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">Calculating the variance of 8 indicator numbers, using the Wellness Wheel:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">Suppose these numbers consists of 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9,10.<br \/>\nThe arithmetic mean also called the &quot;average&quot;, is:<br \/>\n(2+3+4+5+7+8+9+10)&divide;8 = 6.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">The variance of these 8 numbers is the squared deviation from this average, in order to eliminate the minus element. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">These deviations are (2-6)=-4, (3&ndash;6)=&ndash;3, (4&ndash;6)=&ndash;2, (5-6)=-1, (7&ndash;6)=1, (8-6)=2, (9-6)=3, (10&ndash;6)=4. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\">Thus the variance of the 8 numbers is:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"font-family: Verdana;\"> <u>(-4)&sup2;
