The Alchemy of Digestion
Foods Hi in Protein & Carbohydrates
Protein breakdown demands an acid medium. The digestion of protein-dense animal products requires Hi levels of hydrochloric acid. The breakdown of carbohydrate-dense foods requires an alkaline medium. If Hi-carbohydrate foods are mixed with Hi-protein foods, the 1st will not digest but sit and ferment, producing indigestion, bloating and gas.
Since this fermentation will inhibit the digestion of the protein, more gas, bloating and discomfort will be produced. A meal of meat, potatoes, and bread is thus a recipe for digestive disaster. Most protein foods are best digested together with a fresh green salad.
Protein foods like nuts and seeds combine well with acid fruits such as pineapples, strawberries, blackberries, or oranges. It’s also OK with sub-acid fruits like peaches, apples, cherries, mangos. The vitamin C in these fruits aids digestion of the mixture.
