Intellectual Brain ?
Our intellect evolved out of the instinctual/emotional matrix. Instinct defines the parameters that guide each species to form thoughts and develop language.
In a healthy human, instinct, emotion, and intellect work together to create a wide range of choices.
However, the neo-cortex is not powerful enough to override the instinctual defense responses to threats and danger, such as fight, flee, or freeze. Thus, humans are inextricably bound to their animal heritage.
Animals do not have a highly evolved neo-cortex to interfere with the natural return to normal functioning through some form of discharge.
In humans, trauma occurs as a result of the start of an instinctual cycle that has not yet been finished. When the neo-cortex tries to overwrite the completion of this cycle, we will be traumatized.
