The moon is exactly 1/400 the size of the sun and placed at exactly 1/400 the distance from earth to the sun, and rotating at 400 km per earth day, exactly 100 times less than the earth turning around itself.

From earth the moon appears to be as big as the sun, and imitates precisely, each month, the perceived annual movement of the sun.

The earth is 366% larger than the moon, a number equal to the number of rotations around its axis for each orbit around the sun. Inverted, 100/366 = 27.3 are the number of days that the moon takes to orbit the earth at exactly 1 km/sec, and is also its size % of the earth, whose ‘PIN’ number is thus 366. The moon’s PIN is thus 273. Multiplication of those 2 PIN’s gives a 1 plus a bunch of zeros!

One kilometer equals 1/40.000 of the earth’s circumference. The moon’s equatorial circumference is 10.920 km, the aphelion distance from our sun to the earth is 109,2 times the diameter of the sun, and 109,2 earths would also fit across the sun’s diameter.

The lunar eclipse provides extremely accurate information about the position of our sun relative to the galaxy’s central sun, within an 80 year window. Why do we want to know this?

These images, taken 1.2 million km from Saturn, including its crystallized rings, span about 650.000 km across. The sunlight reflected by Saturn makes its rings’ icy surface shine.
